Strong After 40: What You'll Learn at My Free Talk on April 15th

By: Kelli Wargo, PA-C
A free 60-minute workshop at the Phoenixville Rec Center — and why every woman over 40 needs to hear this information
If you're a woman over 40 and you've noticed it's getting harder to stay strong, maintain your weight, or keep your energy up — this talk is for you.
On Tuesday April 15th at 6:30pm I'm hosting a free drop-in workshop at the Phoenixville Recreation Center called Strong After 40. No registration required, no equipment needed, no experience necessary. Just show up.
Here's exactly what we'll cover:
Part 1: Why Strength Training Matters After 40 (20 minutes)
Most women don't realize that after 40 the body starts losing muscle mass at an accelerating rate — a process called sarcopenia. Less muscle means a slower metabolism, weaker bones, less energy, and a harder time maintaining a healthy weight.
The good news? This is largely preventable. We'll cover the science behind muscle loss, bone density, metabolism, and longevity — and why strength training is the single most powerful tool you have to slow the aging process and feel strong for decades to come.
This is especially important if you're on a GLP-1 medication like Ozempic or Wegovy — because without the right approach, a significant portion of the weight you lose on these medications can come from muscle rather than fat.
Part 2: How to Get Started (15 minutes)
The number one question I hear from women over 40 is: "I know I should strength train but I have no idea where to start."
We'll cover practical, beginner-friendly options including gym workouts, home workouts, bodyweight exercises, and basic equipment. No intimidating routines, no gym anxiety. Just clear, actionable guidance you can start using the same week.
Part 3: The Protein Connection (10 minutes)
Protein is the most underrated tool for women over 40 — and most women aren't getting nearly enough of it. We'll cover exactly how much you need, when to eat it, and easy practical ways to hit your targets even when you're busy or your appetite is suppressed from medication.
This section alone tends to be a revelation for most women who attend my talks.
Part 4: Q&A (15 minutes)
Bring your questions — all of them. This is a judgment-free zone and there are no silly questions. Whether you've never touched a weight in your life or you're already active and want to optimize, everyone is welcome and every question is valid.
